Wow, a lot has happened since the end of the race season in 2009. Team Globalbike experienced a nearly complete re-vamp in terms of focus and direction and have added new sponsors. The “pie in the sky” goal is to develop the team into a full-on professional team in the years to come, and we’ve made several significant steps in that direction for 2010. The most significant achievement has been putting together a team roster that will make other amateur teams jealous and is on par with several introductory professional teams. We have 8 guys on the team that have held professional contracts in the past, most of them racing professionally in 2009. With names like Thad Dulin and Bobby Sweeting, we’ve got some legendary firepower ready to continue winning races. Young guns like Spencer Beamer, Alder Martz, and Ben Renkema are ready to continue their ascension in US racing. The best thing is that the rest of the crew, Boyd Johnson, David Forkner, Noah Metzler, Ben Miller and Josh Whitmore, are all proven performers in their own right. Put all of these guys together and we’ve got one heck of a team!
For the second year in a row, the team is presented by Catoma Adventure Shelters, who are the most amazing sponsor to work with! These guys truly believe in the globalbike mission and are committed to helping the team achieve its goals to promote globalbike to the greatest of its ability. RJ Rockers Brewery is also returning as a huge supporter of the team. Stop by and see us at the races for a sample. The team will be riding in Hincapie’s new Velocity line of custom clothing. Big George Hincapie and Cadel Evans are in the same kit. It is guaranteed to be nice! We’ll also be wearing accessories from Defeet, who have added the globalbike sock to their “D-Causes” webpage to help us raise money for globalbike. The team is excited to be riding Boyd bikes and wheels, a new company started by our own Boyd Johnson. The prototypes and first stock of products are rolling in and look great! We also welcome the support of Pre-reg.com, Carolina West Sports Medicine, Hawk Racing (who will be supplying the team with Custom Bottom Brackets), and Bike Worx in Spartanburg, SC.
We hope to build on the success of the team in 2009 and make 2010 the best year yet, both for the team and for the globalbike organization. With the team as its main marketing effort, the globalbike organization was able to double its operating budget and expand from 2 to 4 countries of operation in 2009 while receiving the prestigious “Beyond Sport Award” for its efforts. Those are impressive accomplishments for a first year team and we hope we can continue the trend in 2010.
So, we hope to see all of you at the races this year and at our expo booth where we will be selling product to raise money directly for globalbike. Come get your coffee fix, or pick up a pair of those fantastic Defeet socks!
