Cycling Bio: 2010 and 2011 were so much fun with the team. We were able to achieve many victories and upsets against bigger and stronger teams. My job in races is typically to be the on-the-road captain, as well as a super-domestique for the younger guys.  My strengths lie in chasing breakaways, leading out our sprinters, and knowing exactly when to punch it to end up in the winning break.

I originally tried to go big in cycling as a mountain bike racer. I started racing off-road at 14 and put the pedal to the floor for training for the next 6 years. I did well as a junior, placing well at the national level. I turned pro at 19 and spent a couple years as pack fodder in the back of the big pro mountain bike races in the mid 90′s when Floyd Landis, Cadel Evans, and Miguel Martinez were mountain bikers.

Without showing much promise for a big money pro contract, I decided to pursue other life goals. I quit racing, went to school, and worked for several years as a backpacking, rock climbing, mountaineering, paddling guide for places like Outward Bound and NOLS.

Over the last several years I have gotten back into cycling, this time as a road and cyclocross racer. I’ve greatly enjoyed working with the team and figuring out how we can topple the big names in the races we enter. Occasionally we pull it off, proving that you don’t have to be the strongest person in a road race to win it. Race smarts and team tactics can tip the scales in your favor.

Notable Results: I’ve done well in regional races so far this spring, finishing 8th in one of the big Greenville Spring Series races, 3rd in the prolouge TT at the Blythewood Omnium, and 2nd in the Upstate Cycling Classic Road Race. I had a good cyclocross season in 2011/2012, winning a few elite masters races and placing 12th at the Cyclocross Masters World Championships. Other than that, I occasionally win a regional P/1/2 road race, crit, time trail or cyclocross race. I also placed 9th in 2006 at the Mountain Bike World Championship in the 30-34 age group.

Other Interests: Everything outdoors – Rock Climbing, Kayaking, Ice Climbing, Ski Mountaineering, but also Graphic Design, Sewing, podcasting, working on my bikes, building mountain bike trails, and training my dog.
